The Marcos Jr regime is immoral and treasonous for its schemes to revise the 1987 Charter through a People’s Initiative. These recent self-serving machinations to further debauch the Constitution amid the worsening economic crisis and poverty endured by the masses deserve the condemnation of the outraged Filipino people.

The sinister People’s Initiative scheme is aimed at perpetuating Marcos Jr and his ilk in power and concentrating unlimited powers on Marcos Jr under the pretext of changing the form of government from presidential to parliamentary. It is the same trick played by his late dictator-father Ferdinand Marcos Sr. from 1972 to 1973.

Every administration since Marcos Sr was hell-bent on removing all restraints on the powers of the commander-in-chief and obsessed with escalating human rights violations in line with the all-out war policy against the progressive forces, the legal opposition, and the people under the pretext of the US government’s war on terror.

In violation of the national sovereignty of the Filipino people, the Marcos Jr presidency is set on further selling out the national patrimony under the guise of easing the economic provisions of the 1987 Philippine Constitution that restrict foreign ownership of land and businesses. This is in subservience to the US policy of liberalization that already ruined the entire economy.

This Charter Change attempt of the Marcos Jr puppet regime could also be used to delete from the 1987 Constitution provisions banning foreign military bases, foreign troops, and their armaments and weapons of mass destruction in Philippine territory. It is as clear as day that Marcos Jr follows the dictate of the US government to further entrench its military power in the Philippines and the Asia Pacific against its rival China.

We strongly encourage institutions, organizations, and the broad masses to stand up and voice out loud and clear their opposition to the charter change scheme instigated by the Marcos Jr administration.

Marcos Jr will only succeed in fanning the flames of people’s resistance if it ignores or suppresses the clamor of the people for doing away with the Charter Change and People’s Initiative schemes. ###
