KMP endorses Gabriela Women’s Party for 2025 party-list elections

The Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) has announced its full support for the Gabriela Women’s Party (GWP) and its nominees for the 2025 party-list elections. For over two decades, GWP has led legislative efforts to protect the rights and welfare of women and children, serving as a powerful voice for marginalized women across the country.

As part of the KOALISYONG MAKABAYAN, GWP has been a key advocate for gender equality and the rights of disadvantaged sectors. The party’s nominees, led by former Rep. Sarah Elago, bring diverse expertise in areas such as health, food security, and labor rights, ensuring strong representation for women in the male- and elite-dominated Congress.

KMP is especially proud of the inclusion of peasant women leaders among GWP’s nominees, including Cathy Estavillo, Secretary-General of Amihan, Miriam Villanueva of KASAMA-Lupang Ramos, and Jacqueline Ratin of Amihan Cagayan. Their candidacy highlights GWP’s commitment to rural women and the agricultural sector.

GWP has been instrumental in advancing pro-peasant women legislation, such as the Genuine Agrarian Reform Bill, the Rice Industry Development Act, and bills providing aid for calamity-affected rural communities.

The party has also played a key role in passing important laws, including the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act (RA 9262), the Anti-Child Pornography Act (RA 9710), and the Expanded Maternity Leave Law (RA 11210). In the 19th Congress, GWP continues to push for critical legislation, such as stronger protections against rape and sexual abuse (HB 401), defining the rights of women deprived of liberty (HB 402), the SOGIESC Bill (HB 5551), and Menstrual Leave (HB 7758).

Since entering Congress in 2004, GWP has consistently fought for women’s rights through the party-list system.

At its National Convention in Marikina City yesterday, GWP announced its official nominees for the 2025 elections:

1. Rep. Sarah Elago

2. Cathy Estavillo

3. Dr. Jean Lindo

4. Jacquiline Ruiz
