“Major General Debold Sinas’ appointment as the next chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) is yet another affront to human rights. As expected, Duterte rewarded Sinas for his loyalty as a rabid attack dog of this fascist regime. We do not doubt that Sinas’ legacy as PNP chief will be tainted with human rights violations. His stint as NCRPO chief is enough proof of his brand of leadership in the PNP,” says Danilo Ramos, chairperson of KMP.
Sinas will replace outgoing PNP Chief Lt. Gen. Camilo Cascolan who held the position for two months before his mandatory retirement.
The farmers’ group said Sinas is accountable for Oplan Sauron in Negros, which lead to the deaths, illegal arrests, and detention of farmers and activists in the region. Sinas is also behind the arrests of Manila-based activists including Reina Mae Nasino. “Sinas is also on the hook for the still unresolved brutal killing of peasant leader and peace consultant Randy Echanis last August 10.”
KMP said with the PNP under Sinas’ command, the public must expect for the worst and remain vigilant at all times.
“Humahaba ang listahan ng kasalanan ni General Sinas sa mamamayan. Ngayon na siya na ang hepe ng kapulisan, lalong walang maaasahan ang publiko na “to serve and protect’ mula sa PNP. The PNP only serves at the pleasure of the President who terrorizes the people on a daily basis,” Ramos said. ##
