Farmers challenge Major General Sinas — reform the PNP or resign

His leadership in the PNP is marred with irregularities and transgressions.

“To those asserting that Nuezca’s crime is an isolated case, we say enough of whitewashing! The PNP has no reputation to protect and save. The mere existence and proliferation of ninja cops amid the bloody drug war makes the PNP a hopeless institution. PNP Chief Sinas himself is a violator of rules. If he is incapable or he is unwilling to reform the PNP, he should just resign from his post,” according to the Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas. Sinas has remaining five months as PNP chief before his mandatory retirement in May 2021.

“Sinas and the PNP hierarchy cannot distance themselves from Nuezca and other scalawags in the police force who have committed various crimes including murder, rape-slay, drug trade, kidnapping, and other heinous crimes. The PNP cannot insist that only a few cops are involved in illegal activities and administrative offenses. To serve and protect the people, country and community have become an empty motto of the country’s police organization.

“Since 2016, a total of 15,768 PNP personnel have been penalized due to various offenses and criminal activities. The PNP’s Internal Cleansing Program is not enough. There should be a total overhaul and reorientation of the national police system. However, we cannot expect this to happen under Duterte,” KMP concluded. ###
