[Bahura kapalit ng bakuna?] Duterte urged to take bolder stance vs. Chinese incursion in Julian Felipe Reef

The Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) today demanded the details of the meeting between President Rodrigo Duterte and China’s ambassador Huang Xilian. According to Malacanang, Duterte relayed his concern to the Sino envoy regarding Chinese vessels in phalanx formation inside our territory in Julian Felipe Reef.

The public has the right to know the details of the meeting between Duterte and Huang. Nothing will reassure us as long as the Chinese vessels are still anchored at Julian Felipe Reef, around 320 kilometers or 175 nautical miles west of Bataraza in Palawan in the West Philippine Sea.

“The 220 Chinese ships are not merely gathered and seeking refuge from poor weather at the Julian Felipe Reef. The presence of those vessels that are believed to be manned by Chinese maritime militia personnel, is a direct and clear incursion in our territorial waters. It is alarming that Duterte is not doing anything kowtow to China,” says KMP Chairman Emeritus Rafael Mariano, also the Chairperson of Anakpawis.

“We cannot help but think that the 1M doses of Sinovac vaccines donated by China are bribes to silence Duterte and the Philippine government over its repeated provocations and crushing of our sovereignty.”

While the US, Australia, Japan, and UK governments expressed support to the Philippine government against China’s threatening presence in the West Philippine Sea, KMP said the Duterte administration must take a bolder stance and move against China’s activities.

KMP supports House Resolution 1675 filed by Makabayan to probe the presence of the Chinese ships. All democracy-loving people must continue calling out this blatant trampling of our sovereignty. #
