On the retirement of PNP chief Debold Sinas and appointment of new PNP chief Guillermo Eleazar

Major General Debold Sinas will not retire with honor and valor. He will be forever known as the reviled Mananita cop who is notorious for killing civilians. The public must never forget Sinas’ crimes against Filipinos.

Sinas carried his mercenary leadership from the Visayas, to NCR, to Camp Crame. He is liable for the 2019 Oplan Sauron killing spree in Negros and the Bloody Sunday raids that killed nine individuals across Calbarzon last March 7.

Sinas’ hands are bloodied and accountable for numerous brutal killings of farmers and workers, arrests of activists, and human rights violations committed by police forces under his reign as PNP Chief. He must be held responsible for state-sponsored rights violations, according to the Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas.

While Sinas and Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar are cut from the same cloth, it is up to Eleazar to prove his worth as the new police chief. We challenge new PNP Chief Eleazar: Don’t follow Sinas’ bloody path of killings and corruption. Stop weaponizing search warrants that lead to killings, arrests and unjust incarceration of civilians.

We know that it has been Eleazar’s lifelong dream to be at the helm of the PNP. He was even bypassed by Sinas last year, and now, he will serve as PNP chief for a short six month-term. We challenge him to genuinely serve and protect the people and not just serve at the pleasure of President Duterte.
