Progressive groups Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP), Anakpawis Party-list , and Bagong Alyansang Makabayan – NCR (BAYAN-NCR) along with students and land rights advocates troop in front of the Philippine Senate to call for the immediate convening of the Senate impeachment court and to denounce the delays surrounding the impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte.

KMP stands firmly behind the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte. In February 2025, the House of Representatives overwhelmingly voted—215 to 102—to impeach her on the basis of “betrayal of public trust” displayed in instances of massive corruption and misuse of confidential funds. We call on the Senate to scrap all delays and immediately convene the impeachment court. Every day of delay is another day of injustice to farmers and marginalized Filipinos.

Duterte allies Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa and Robin Padilla are even seeking to dismiss the case. This is nothing but procedural maneuvering to evade accountability. KMP demands that the Senate honor its constitutional duty, open the trial without further stalling, and prioritize justice over politics.

Earlier this year, KMP Chairperson Danilo “Ka Daning” Ramos—alongside the Makabayan bloc—filed the formal impeachment complaint transmitted to the Senate in early February Ramos stated publicly: “the Senate should fast‑track the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte because she should be held accountable”

KMP’s call to action

To the Senate: Convene the impeachment trial immediately. Do not let “technicalities”—moreover, political games—delay justice.

To the Filipino public: Hold the Senate accountable to fulfill their constitutional duty. Demand transparency and a fair, timely trial.

To farmers and the marginalized: Stay vigilant. This goes beyond Sara Duterte—it’s exposing the faults and fractures of bureaucrat-capitalism deeply ingrained in the Philippine Government.

We further urge the Senate to not only begin the impeachment trial but to act decisively and swiftly convict Sara Duterte. Her abuses of power, flagrant misuse of public funds, and repeated attacks on democracy and human rights are not just violations of the law—they are betrayals of the Filipino people. A conviction is not merely a political outcome; it is a necessary act of justice that calls for the end of impunity at the highest levels of government.
