The Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) called for the immediate arrest of Senator Ronald dela Rosa and urged the Senate to proceed without delay with the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte amid deepening political turmoil involving the Duterte camp. The group said accountability must prevail as the International Criminal Court (ICC) moves forward with cases linked to the bloody “war on drugs” and as impeachment complaints against Sara Duterte advance in the Senate.

“The Senate must stop coddling Bato dela Rosa. The fugitive Senator must face arrest and answer for the thousands of killings committed under the Duterte regime’s brutal drug war. Public office and political influence should not shield perpetrators of crimes against humanity,” KMP said.

KMP also strongly criticized dela Rosa’s appeal to President Bongbong Marcos to protect him as a Filipino citizen and prevent his transfer to The Hague, saying such appeals are desperate attempts to evade accountability.

“For years, poor communities suffered from killings, fear, and impunity under the bloody war on drugs. Now that international accountability mechanisms are catching up, Bato and the Duterte camp want political protection and special treatment,” the group added.

The group also demanded that the Senate immediately surrender dela Rosa to authorities and called on the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) to enforce the ICC warrant and ensure full cooperation with the ICC.

KMP also warned Senators against efforts to derail or weaken the impeachment proceedings against Sara Duterte through political maneuvers. The Senate Presidency coup yesterday bare this sinister agenda of the pro-Duterte Senators..

“The Senate must fulfil its constitutional duty and immediately proceed with the impeachment trial. It must not serve as a refuge for corruption, abuse of power, and impunity,” the group said.

According to KMP, this latest notch in the Marcos-Duterte conflict should not distract the public from the real issue of accountability. “Filipinos should not be forced to choose between these equally burdensome arch-enemies. What the public demands is justice for the victims of extrajudicial killings,” KMP said.

The group stressed that holding Bato dela Rosa and Sara Duterte accountable is part of the broader struggle against corruption, State violence, and the culture of impunity that continues to burden ordinary Filipinos, especially farmers and the peasant masses.
