KMP Chairperson Emeritus Rafael “Ka Paeng” Mariano attended the Senate hearing on the proposed Rice Act Bills today called by the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Food and Agrarian Reform led by Senator Kiko Pangilinan in his intervention, Ka Paeng reiterated the long-standing demand of farmers for a P20 per kilo floor price for palay, sufficient production subsidies, and agricultural services.
He said the Rice Liberalization Law has proven to be a death sentence for farmers. KMP calls for its urgent repeal and replacement with the Rice Industry Development Act (RIDA), a law crafted by farmers to promote national rice production, food sovereignty, and dignified livelihood.
Last month, nearly 500 farmers Nueva Ecija from convened in a forum and demanded for P20 per kilo palay prices and the abolition of the Rice Liberalization Law.
