August 9 is International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, a celebration of the collective struggles of Indigenous communities across the globe. For Indigenous Peoples in the Philippines, this day is also a time of protest and resistance, especially against violations of our rights.

Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas and Tanggol Magsasaka invites you to join our forum to commemorate IDWIP! Let us be one with the struggles and calls of the Indigenous Peoples.

Under the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Indigenous communities continue to face grave human rights violations. The plunder of ancestral lands has intensified under the guise of development, while Indigenous rights defenders are met with militarization, aerial bombings, forced evacuations, and criminalization.
Among the gravest of these violations is the disregard for International Humanitarian Law (IHL), a body of rules that protects civilians and limits the conduct of hostilities during armed conflict. Military operations in Indigenous territories often violate IHL, failing to distinguish between combatants and non-combatants, and exposing entire communities to encampments, bombings, and displacement.
