The Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) assailed the dismissal of the impeachment complaints against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., saying the move confirms how political power is being used to block any serious attempt at transparency and accountability.
KMP said the unpopular decision of the House Justice Committee shows that Congress has no intention of allowing an open and substantive examination of allegations involving public funds and government spending priorities.
“This development exposes the extent to which institutions are being manipulated to insulate the President from responsibility,” said KMP chairperson Danilo Ramos.
Ramos added that the complaints raised legitimate concerns that directly affect the livelihoods of farmers and ordinary Filipinos.
KMP secretary general Ronnie Manalo said the dismissal underscores the limits of seeking justice through institutions dominated by bureacrats and political allies of the Chief Executive.
“This decision reinforces what many already know, that accountability will not come from a Congress aligned with the executive and dominated by landlords and big business,” Manalo said.
Manalo stressed that the junking of the impeachment complaints should serve as an impetus for broader resistance.
KMP called on the public to join protest actions on February 25 EDSA uprising anniversary, saying the date carries continuing relevance amid widespread public discontent. ###
